Where London's built up areas end, wild woods and open spaces begin. This walk takes us beyond and through the fringe of north London.
After leaving Cockfosters station, at one end of the Piccadilly line, we soon find ourselves in the woodland of Monken Hadley Common following which we meander our way, mainly downhill, through a green corridor with lakes and rivers until we emerge in central Finchley from where there are buses and trains to take us home including the SL10 limited stop bus to Harrow via Hendon. If we have a clear day there should be a spectacular view from the heights of Hadley over London. On any day, our walk through the green corridor will be interspersed with examples of the diversity of London's housing from mansions to terraced social housing with suburban semi-detached in between.
At Cockfosters station there are public toilets and a cafe.
