Overview

The walk starts at Charlton Horethorne heading West into a valley formed by a dip slope of an escarpment.  There is a gradual ascent towards Sigwells Farm which, in 1942, was the site of a Royal Navy Air station (H.M.S. Herron II) as a satellite to that at Yeovilton.  The route then passes Compton Castle, through the Somerset villages of Blackford, North Cheriton and South Cheriton before returning to Charlton Horethorne.

The terrain comprises fields, tracks, paths and lanes.  There is one short moderate ascent and thereafter gently undulating gradients with views across valleys and hills.  The challenging Somerset stiles have been bypassed by using lanes and tracks.

Packed Lunch.

Assistance Dogs only.
