Overview

With no walks offered for this date I propose to return to a previous popular walk which many have said they enjoyed. It is quite different to our usual walks and consists of two unequal halves. Walkers can join either or both walks.  There is an 11.00 start to allow those coming by train or Park & Ride to reach us.

There will also be a one hour lunch break for walkers to visit the cathedral, see the Magna Carta, or visit the Salisbury Museum (excellent), or Mompesson House (NT), or Arundells ( former home of Edward Heath) and still have time for lunch.

The morning walk has not been recently recced but I have done the route many times and alternatives exist should a path be blocked.

The morning 5 miler walks out to Old Sarum, around the outside of the old castle site, on roads and footpaths. Can be muddy, also worth considering bringing a walking pole. In November 2024 the return route was flooded, and a bridge submerged, hopefully not this year.

The afternoon 2 miler walks out of town crossing the Nadder further up stream than the 2024 walk and returns across the meadows from where Constable painted Salisbury Cathedral in 1831.  This part of the walk is all on hard surfaces, and much of this walk was totally underwater in January this year.
