A Welshpool Ramblers Walk from Welshpool
The walk will start from the Heulwen Wharf and will take us through the town and up through Bron-y-Buckley Wood. After crossing the road, we will be on fields and quiet lanes with some far reaching views up to the Rhallt. The initial climb up through the wood is quite steep but after that it is an undulating landscape rising gently to the summit of the walk. The distance is 6.5 to 7 miles and the elevation is around 900 feet. Expect mud.
Late information :
The Welshpool Walk on Sunday 8th February will be in the region of 7 miles long. However, due to the very wet weather we have been experiencing recently, the ground is extremely wet. Having re-walked part of the route on Wednesday, there is a lot of mud and standing (and running in some cases) water and we may wish to re-assess the route as we proceed. On the plus side, the weather forecast for Sunday looks better than of recent days.
To get to the car parking area at the Heulwen Wharf :
From the northerly end of the A483 Welshpool Bypass turn as if going to the Town Centre (along Salop Road). After only aout 50 m turn right (around a very faded painted roundabout). From the Town Centre, the roundabout is of course just before you reach the bypass.
After another 50m or so, turn right just before the green school gates in front of you. Follow the lane along until you go over the canal bridge. The parking area is then immediately on the right. Please note that this area is private and belongs to the Heulwen Trust so please do not park on any grass. Before we set off, the gates will be locked.
