We walk through the village of West Deeping, over the hump-backed bridge and turn into Little Meadow. We walk past Maxey Mill, Maxey Lakes and into the village of Maxey. We walk through the quarry and onto the Maxey Cut, a canal built in 1954 as a flood defence of the river Welland to protect The Deepings, West Deeping and Maxey. It was commissioned after the disastrous floods of 1947, when adverse tidal conditions caused death and destruction, the worst in living memory.
It is a lovely stretch of waterway, popular with walkers and wildlife so bring your binoculars if you like birdwatching. From here we loop back to Maxey and retrace our steps through the meadows to West Deeping.
This is an easy walk with mostly good tracks and grassland. There is one potentially muddy section, dependent on rainfall in the preceding days but a road route could be substituted if need be.
