Overview

Area Sunday Short Walk - Distance generally between 4 to 6 miles

Circular Walk 

Note - This walk is more challenging than the usual short walks.  There is a steady climb up to 663 ft  onto Taxal Edge and there are muddy parts along the route.

Meeting Place & Time – 09:45 hrs train from Manchester Piccadilly. The Leader will meet you all at Whaley Bridge Station.



Start of Walk - @ Whaley Bridge Train Station after the arrival of the 9:45 train from Manchester Piccadilly Station @ 1024 hrs



Note - It is advisable to check on the website https://www.thetrainline.com or Transport for Greater Manchester (tfgm.com) for the departure time of the train as last minute changes might occur.



Train Ticket – Off Peak Return Ticket to Whaley Bridge. If you have a TfGM Concessionary Pass, train travel is free to Middlewood Station so you just need a Middlewood to Whaley Bridge return ticket.



Car Parking – Free street car parking as it is Sunday and also on the Canal Basin Car Park which is opposite the Station.



Walk Route – Whaley Bridge Station, Toddbrook Reservoir, Walker Brow, Taxal Edge, Overton Hall Farm, River Goyt, Shallcross Wood, Horwich End and back to the Station



Expected time back in Whaley Bridge – about 14:00 hrs in time for the return train at 14:11 hrs failing that the next return train is 15:14 hrs
