We are the Kilmarnock & Loudoun Ramblers. We open the way for everyone in our local community to enjoy the pleasures of walking.
This is a moderate walk with 600feet of climb and 8 miles on rubble roads and paths.
We start with the climb to Auchenden hill 600ft within which we go through the unique rock formation known as The Whangie.
We then descend from the trig point via a grass path to rubble roads and paths around Burncrooks Reservoir crossing over the dam and then returning to the car park via a different route making a figure of 8.
Views from the trig point were wonderful , Ben Lomond , Loch Lomond and surrounding hills were great , reservoir was very low displaying things I’ve never seen before.
Was dry on recce but boots and poles are recommended for climb and descent.
Meet at 08.45am at East Ayrshire Council HQ, 95 London Road, Kilmarnock KA3 7BU to arrange car share and leave at 09.00am.
