We set off from Whitburn village and follow field paths to Cleadon Hills nature reserve, then cross South Shields golf course and descend towards Marsden, where public toilets are available. We then take the coastal path south, past Souter Lighthouse, and return to Whitburn.

Good paths, several stiles and a couple of busy roads to cross. 

Refreshments at the Jolly Sailor pub, approximately 1/2 mile before the return to the start point. Ice creams and coffees available at kiosk in Whitburn on return route.
