Join us for a walk from Mere climbing up onto White Sheet Down, with its extensive views across Wiltshire and Dorset. We will wander off piste here on the open access land which forms part of the NT Stourhead estate and take a break for a snack whilst enjoying the views. Next we come down the hill and pass the memorial to those lost in a plane crash at Beech Clump in 1945, before returning over level ground past Zeals Knoll to Long Hill. A short, steep climb here gives fine views of the route we’ve taken, as well as over Mere and towards Shaftesbury but wimps can take the low route instead and miss the views. Anyone with any remaining energy is welcome to climb further up to the viewpoint at Castle Hill but this is optional and the Leader won’t be joining you! The walk is mostly on farm tracks or open grassland. There is one long climb and one short, steep (avoidable) climb. One stile. Bring snack.
Please note: the Finish Time is an estimate and may vary.
