Overview

A hilly walk in the south Cotswolds. Climb from Wotton-under-Edge onto the limestone ridge above and on to the Tyndale Monument at North Nibley. Drop below and then climb to Stinchcombe Hill. Return along valley to east and then back onto the ridge to Wotton. A mix of open fields and quiet minor roads and well shaded woodland (ideal for a warm day). Great views across to the Severn, both bridges, Wales and the Malverns.
Regular Sunday walkers will be comfortable with this walk but be aware that it is hilly – three climbs (350, 500, 500 ft) with similar drops so poles are highly recommended. At the more demanding end of our regular walks.  Three stops for coffee (about 11.30), lunch (about 12.45) and afternoon breather (2.30).

The free Civic Centre car park in the centre of Wotton-under-Edge behind the Shell garage. There are other car parks but be careful – some are short stay. On the pre-walk it was full at 10.30 am on a weekday but should be less busy on a Sunday. I parked easily on nearby B4060 Gloucester Street. Wotton-under-Edge is 29 miles from Trowbridge – AA Route Planner gives a journey time of 54 minutes. I’d advise adding an extra 30 mins to be sure – leaving the Bath-Stroud A46 for Hawkesbury Upton, Alderley and Wotton you follow a windy, hilly road where you might take a wrong turn! Wotton itself takes a bit of navigating as the main roads are dictated by the hilly topography. Car sharing strongly recommended. [As this is a more distant drive I will postpone at the time if weather conditions look very wet. Anyone booking will be informed directly; a general cancellation will be indicated via Jen and the usual sources.]
