Overview

From Brookside Layby - towards Blaze Farm, then Hammerton Knowl Farm, Hammerton Farm and descend into Winkle. Across to Nettlebeds and Hawkslee from where we pick up the Gritstone Trail. Onwards to Winkle Minn, down to Spring Fields Farm, across to Brooms and Higher Pethills Farm (alpacas!), then to Lowerhouse. Ascend to Hanging Gate Inn, then up and over to Oakenclough and back to Wildboarclough.

Moderate walk of 12 miles with 2160 ft accumulative ascent (OS Maps), one short section (about 20 metres or so) of steep ascent on which poles would be useful if you use them, and also good tread on your footwear.

Please bring picnic lunch, snacks and plenty of drinking water. Sorry no dogs.

Brookside Layby, Wildboarclough. Peak National Park is introducing parking charge at Brookside Layby. Although the signs are up and the payment meter installed, it is not yet working, and as there is no mobile signal at Brookside Layby, whether they can get it to work remains to be seen. If it works it should accept card and cash payment, but although RingGo phone payment is offered, I doubt whether that can work!
