We meet on the corner of Harris Lane and Oaklands Avenue; heading off through Wistow, passing the very old church, and the “cottage core” back street known as Manor Street, before crossing the bridge out of Wistow to take the Rothschild Way footpath along the river and across fields to Bury. After navigating the back-streets of Bury we continue along a thicket path which runs parallel to the main road to Upwood, along this path are a number of interesting benches. We pass the site of RAF Upwood before turning left off the road to walk along field and wood edges and country lanes back to Wistow. There will be time on this walk to dawdle and investigate pubs and churches etc!
Please arrive 10 minutes beforehand if you can. The duration of a walk includes time for drinks break. Walk leaders will explain stops for drinks at the start of a walk.
Do consider the length of a walk, the weather and likely ground conditions to ensure you are fit enough and have appropriate footwear and clothing. If in doubt, contact the walk leader for advice.
Leaders make every effort to ensure your safety, but we expect members and guests to take care to minimise the risk of accidents.
All “Registered Assistance Dogs” are welcome on the walks with their owner. Please contact the walk leader. All well-behaved dogs are welcome on this walk, owners/handlers are fully responsible for them.
Please park considerately on the streets nearby, bearing in mind that many residents use the street parking; there is more street parking if needed at the blind end of Church Street - where residents do not use it.
We sometimes have large numbers attending walks, so it is important not to cause congestion for residents. Please car share as much as possible – Use the WhatsApp group to arrange sharing. Only use public house or private car parks where the leader has arranged for this or where you intend to patronise an establishment after the walk.
The Three Horseshoes pub is open from 5pm-11pm, but food is not served after 8.30pm on last inquiring.
