Walking in East Surrey
Formed in 1983, East Surrey Walkers is a sociable group whose primary aim is to enjoy walking and protect the places we love to walk in. Walking with a group is a great way to get out in the fresh air, make new friends and enjoy the beautiful countryside around us. Most of our walks are in the East Surrey area, but we do sometimes stray into the neighbouring counties of Kent and West Sussex.
We offer walks most days, covering a range of distances and abilities, with gentle ambles of around 3 miles, half day walks of around 6 miles and full day walks of up to 12 miles. We also offer Fast Fitness Workout Walks, which are just what the name implies – a fast walk of around 4 miles, completed in 1 hour.
Our walking community
Looking after our local rights of way network is part of what we do, with members volunteering to inspect paths and undertake light individual maintenance tasks. We also have a more formally organised monthly work party – Ken’s Krew – which undertakes more challenging jobs such as replacing stiles with kissing gates.
We have a programme of social events throughout the year and two walking holidays each year – currently restricted to the UK only due to Covid.
We welcome people of all ages and abilities and you’re very welcome to try walking with us, or to get involved in looking after paths and green spaces and opening up new places to explore.
