Overview

Stevenage Health Walks meet at Fairlands Valley Park, Costellos Cafe for a gentle warm up walk. This walk is graded at a grade 1. This walk will take approximately 30 minutes. 

Please be reminded that we are adhering to the latest government guidelines (updated on 10 June 2022), in particular, Grassroots sport guidance for the public and sports providers.

Health walks are an ideal way of taking exercise and are suitable for all ages and abilities. As well as being a way to increase your social confidence with others; walks strengthen your heart, muscles and bones.

We recommend that you start slowly and always walk at a pace you are comfortable with; you should still be able to chat to the person next to you. Brisk walking brings the most benefits as you will feel a little warmer and breathing will become a little harder.

Current medical advice suggests you should aim to take moderate exercise for 30 minutes at least 5 times a week. If you are in any doubt about joining a wellbeing walk, contact your doctor and talk to the walk leaders about our specific needs at your first walk.

In the event of severe or adverse weather conditions, please ensure you have spoken with a walk leader before you begin your journey.

Where buses are used to reach the walks starting destination, a bus will be available to return to Stevenage. Timings for this will be flexible and available from the walk's leaders.

  • Turn up 10 minutes before your first walk.
  • Fill in a simple medical form from your leader.
  • Wear comfortable shoes and waterproofs.
  • Walking boots or good waterproof shoes should be worn for all longer walks.
  • Bring a bottle of water.
  • Inform the walk leader if you bring medication (inhalers, EpiPens or insulin).
  • Dogs (even those on leads) should not be brought along on the walks.
