West Mendip Walkers easy 8 mile circular walk from Uphill. The walk starts with a reminder of an old seaside activity, turns North through a wood, then West across a golf course (beware of play in progress). The sea comes dramatically into view and (tide permitting) we walk along the sands skirting Weston-super-Mare’s promenade. At Birnbeck Pier we turn East to climb up through the densely wooded Worlebury Hill to the remains of an Iron-Age fort and to a reminder of a significant day in much more recent history. Then a more detailed look at the fort, before we retrace our steps but on the promenade itself for much of the way back to the start. There are no livestock problems and no stiles, but dog owners will need to ensure judicious use of the lead.
