This lovely 10 mile walk is in the Farndale valley, where hopefully we'll see the famous daffodils out in full bloom. Leaving the car park, we head downhill into woodland and follow the path alongside the River Dove, with some great views along the valley. When we reach Low Mill, the route to Church Houses is likely to be quite busy with families and others also enjoying the daffodils. The walk passes the Daffy Cafe where we can stop briefly to buy cakes and bakes, before continuing on to the lunch stop at Church Houses.
After lunch, we follow field paths back to Low Mill and this involves crossing some high stiles. Please bear this in mind if you're thinking of bringing your dog. We pass through the village and take a steep-ish path up to Harland Moor, where we can take in the lovely views of the valley below while we get our breath back, and then follow the moorland path and tracks back to the cars.
This is an undulating walk on varied terrain including riverside paths, field paths, moorland and minor roads. It is likely to be muddy and wet in places, please wear appropriate footwear and clothing. The route also passes through some farmyards and fields, where we are very likely to find livestock with their young. If you are planning to bring your dog on this walk, please keep them on a lead at all times.
🅿️ As this area is very popular with visitors at this time of year, the meeting point is a large gravel layby which is halfway along the road from Gillamoor to Low Mill. Hopefully there should be plenty of space for parking.
🚻 There are toilets available in Low Mill.
🍺 Afterwards, we can drive a short distance to Gillamoor, for a well deserved post-walk drink at the Royal Oak Inn.
