This walk is part of the Broxtowe Ramblers Trip to the Brecon Beacons
9.9 miles (16km) Ascent 2,017 ft (615 m)
This route takes in the two peaks of Twmpa (also known as Lord Hereford's Knob) and Hay Bluff in the northern Black Mountains, separated by the 550m Gospel Pass. On a clear day there are superb views towards mid-Wales, and you could also see hang-gliders. Even on a cloudy day you may see red kites cruising overhead, and ravens rolling on the air currents. At the lowest point, Capel-y-ffin, two historic churches of different denominations stand almost side by side, surrounded by ancient yews. There are scenic crags alongside Darren Lwyd, and a long almost level stretch along the Offa's Dyke Path where you may flush a grouse from the heather. The path passes around The Vision Farm, which features in Bruce Chatwin's novel On the Black Hill.
