Starting at Whatstandwell Railway Station the walk is initially along the disused Cromford Canal, then up through Bilberry Woods and across the fields to Crich village. Lunch will be at Crich Stand. We return to Crich village and then head downhill to Crich Carr and through the abandoned quarry and back along the canal to our starting point.
Two flights of stone steps down to Crich Carr but there is always a handrail if required. The only public toilets will be those we pass when going through Crich village. At Whatstandwell there is the Family Tree a set of tea rooms that are open between 9 am and 4 pm. There are various food outlets in Crich village but a packed lunch may be the easiest option.
Limited free canal side parking above the Family Tree otherwise use the Whatstandwell Station carpark - cheaper parking fees after 10 am. Please do NOT park in the spaces opposite the Family Tree cafe. Direct trains run from Beeston taking just under an hour. PLEASE CHECK THE TIMETABLES for outward and return options!
