Overview

The ancient kingdoms of Northumbria and Mercia once united at this stretch of the River Don.

From the start point we drop down into the Don Gorge, exiting onto Nursery Lane very close to the Boat Inn, a 16th century building made famous by Sir Walter Scott who penned the best-selling novel 'Ivanhoe'

We cross the River Don, leaving the old kingdom of Northumbria and step onto the south bank,. formerly Mercia. There is as climb up and we walk eastwards towards Warmsworth passing under the A1(M). From there we cross back over the Don and continue along the TPT then back along Millennium Way into Sprotbrough.

Various options for refreshment available close to the end of the walk.
