Overview

Discover more about the history of the Southside, and the story of the Maxwells who settled here in the 11th century. We will visit The Vennel, one of the oldest graveyards in Glasgow, the remains of the Meal Mill, and in the park the remnants of Polloktoun and if it’s not too muddy the ice house, and Lady Christian Stirling Maxwell’s Curling Pond.

We will start the 4 mile circular walk from Pollokshaws Burgh Hall when the AGM finishes.

We will return to Pollokshaws Burgh Hall via the Burrell Collection. Finding the Curling Pond and Ice House does involve climbing over a stile and negotiating very muddy and uneven ground, occasionally shared with the Pollok cows. If you would prefer to avoid these obstacles the group can split with some folk continuing directly to the Burrell where we can meet you later.
