The South Hams Way is a 100 mile walk around the edge of Dartmoor and the South Hams area. The way is divided into 10 walks and will be officially opened on Saturday 14th September at Totnes in Borough Park at 10.30am.
The section to be walked will take ramblers to Buckfastleigh, 7.5 miles away. We would love you and any NDR members to support the event if you can. The walk is linear, so you may wish to get together with friends and car share, leaving a car at Buckfastleigh to come back to Totnes to start the walk.
Please note there are NO BUS SERVICES between Buckfastleigh & Totnes on this Saturday.
Arrangements for the above event and walk have been finalised. An opening ceremony will be held at 10:30 followed by a mass walk departing at 11:00 (staggered departure dependent on numbers). The walk is 7.5 miles from Totnes to Buckfastleigh. Walkers will be accompanied by South Hams Ramblers leaders.
There are several choices regarding the return journey to Totnes:
1) There are no public service buses on a Sunday. So we will pay Bob the Bus to provide a shuttle service back to Totnes from 15:00. The collection point will be outside the café at South Devon Railway. Though free to use on the day, we would ask for a donation if you choose this option, by bank transfer direct to our bank: Name of account: SHR - South Hams Way; sort code 30 54 66; account no. 28322860. Any money donated will go directly to support the South Hams Way project.
2) Book a place on the spectacular South Devon Railway heritage train. The trip from Buckfastleigh back to Totnes is £16.50 with a range of train times. Sunday 14th is a ‘heritage day’ and we are told that the advanced booking facility will be online from 23rd August. The fare can also be paid on the day at the booking office at Buckfastleigh. There is a discount for groups 10 or more (contact SDR in advance to book for a group). South Devon Railway
3) Arrange with walking colleagues to place a second vehicle at Buckfastleigh. You can park free in the South Devon Railway car park.
4) Call a taxi and share the cost with other walkers
