Group name: Balerno

This group is a part of Lothian & Borders Area.

Our activities include:
Path maintenance

We are a busy group with walks at weekends and on Wednesdays, We also have social events and trips away to other areas . The Balerno Group covers Balerno, Currie and the surrounding area.  Balerno nestles at the foot of the Pentland Hills to the south west of Edinburgh.  A group of us work with Friends of the Pentlands helping with tree planting, drainage schemes, path building and repair.

If any of our walks interest you, then if you are not on our mailing list please contact  the walk leader to check that there are no changes to the walk.

Usually most of our walks operate on a ‘just turn up’ (JTU) system. During the Covid-19  pandemic all walks must be booked and you must contact the walk leader first. The walk description will give the leader's contact details. If you want to join a walk at the walk start point please let the walk leader know.

We regret that no dogs are allowed on our walks.

Wednesday walks

Walks take place on each Wednesday.  The deadline for booking a Wednesday walk is normally 5.00 pm on the preceeding Sunday. Booking should be made by WhatsApp or text to the walk leader, please add your name and mobile number in the message. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Note that the numbers on any particular walk  are at the discretion of the walk leader.

Walkers must make their own arrangements to get to the start point.

As demand can be high, if you do have to cancel, please inform the Leader with plenty of notice to enable someone on the waiting list to take up the place. The Walk Leader will keep a registration sheet with your name and telephone number for three weeks as part of tracing and tracking in case anyone develops Covid symptoms.
