Group name: Southwell
This group is a part of Nottinghamshire Area.
Our activities include:
Short and easy walks
Our Group membership is drawn largely from the Southwell area of Nottinghamshire although some of our members come from other parts of the county. We cover a wide age range. Walks take place every other Sunday and vary in length from approximately 6 to 12 miles. Our walks are drawn from the local area and surrounding counties of Lincolnshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire.
We always meet at the car-park on Church Street in Southwell (opposite the Minster, NG25 0HQ or SK 471 518) at 9.00am so that transport can be shared.
During the summer months we offer a short Friday evening walk, again fortnightly, also commencing from Church Street car-park at 7.00pm. For further information, our annual programme (January to December) is published on the RA web-site and our own web-site.
Twice a year we arrange weekends away to areas further afield. In the recent past we have visited such varied locations as
- Keswick and Comiston in the North of the Lake District.
- Sedburgh in the westerly Yorkshire Dales.
- Bishops Castle in Shropshire.
- Longmynd in Shropshire.
- Whitby in East Yorkshire.
We arrange a number of social events throughout the year including a summer BBQ, a Christmas walk and fuddle and an annual visit to the outdoor theatre at Tolethorpe.
You’re very welcome to try walking with us and share our enthusiasm for the outdoors. In fact we are frequently joined by people when they are holidaying in Nottinghamshire or on one of our programmed walks in an area they enjoy.
