Overview

We'll leave Winchester on the Pilgrim's Trail heading South over chalk downland to the pretty village of Owslebury to stop to enjoy our flasks by the 700 year old church.

We'll then continue down into the beech woods of the Hampshire Basin, following the North boundary of Marwell Zoo (keep your eyes peeled for wildlife!), before heading back over the Downs to Twyford for a picnic lunch at Hunter's Park (toilet available).

We'll then complete our loop along the Itchen Way, past St Catherine's Hill and returning to our start point.

This is a lovely walk of mixed open countryside and woodland, with wide reaching views along the way.  As we leave the chalk downs into the glacial clays of the Hampshire Basin, we'll encounter a bit of mud which we should be able to skirt around.

Bring poles if you have them, to help avoid the mud, and in case some of the chalk paths are wet and slippy.

Halfway through the walk, there is a series of five narrow stiles to climb over.

Please don't bring your dog on this walk, as we will pass through fields with horses and cattle in them.
