Overview

This is a circular walk covering an area from Newtown to Old Burghclere, and passes through Brocks Green and Burghclere. There are some great viewpoints along the route and there’s a wide variety of terrain: plenty of wooded areas, farmland and country lanes – with a few sections on quiet roads. There are 7 stiles, spread across the route. There are several inclines but none are onerous. But it would be worthwhile to bring poles if you use them. Please also be aware that we will be walking through long grass at times and covering your legs might be beneficial.

If the weather is sunny, please remember hats and/or suncream. There are no facilities on route, but plenty of trees! This is a picnic walk and please bring plenty to drink.

This walk is not suitable for dogs.

We meet at Jonathan Hill car park on Well St, Newtown (RG20 9AT). If you come from the South, leave the A34 at the first Newbury exit on to the B4640 towards Newbury. Take the right immediately after The Swan pub and the car park is about half a mile on your left (by a post box). Car sharing would help if you are able, to help ensure there is enough parking space. Please either arrange directly or let me know your location and I will try to connect people together.
