We are the Gloucestershire Walking Group. We open the way for everyone in our local community to enjoy the pleasures of walking.
🌿 Join us for a picturesque stroll through some of the more scenic parts of Gloucester behind Hempsted and circling Alney Island.

👣 Walk Description:
Routing through greenery west-side of Gloucester Docks; two separate loops, partially alongside the River Severn, some grassland and a little woodland in and around Alney Island.
The first loop is approx 5miles west of Hempsted before reconvening at the car park for the second (optional) loop of 4miles around Alney Island. Once done, we'll be back to the cars, or off to town for a peek at the market and/or lunch/drinks.
Cows, Sheep and the occasional Horse may moo, bah and neigh as they observe our passing. The two loops are quite simple, but do offer a fairly scenic setting.
This walk is an earlier start because of the market inclusion and proximity to Gloucester, Stroud and Cheltenham. As such there won't be a designated lunch stop until the end (of the 2nd loop). Please however bring plenty of fluids, snacks and, if we're set for a good forecast, suncream.

* There are toilets at the Quays which we can route to if desperately needed. Please otherwise plan accordingly.
* Plenty of cafes and pubs for post walk refreshments and/or facilities.
* There will be no lunch stop. This walk is expected to conclude around 12:30. We'll lunch then.

* Parking is £2.50 all day Sunday. Please select option accordingly when paying.

Dress appropriately for the weather. Sturdy walking boots are highly recommended for your comfort and safety

Dogs are not permitted on this walk, except for registered assistance dogs. If you have any concerns about route suitability, please consult with the walk leader beforehand.

We encourage you to take photos on our walks, but we ask that you do not share photos that include people’s faces publicly (including Meetup) without their clear permission.
Occasionally, group photos may be taken during walks. The photographer will always tell you where these will be shared, such as Meetup, the 20s and 30s members’ WhatsApp group, or for promotional purposes on the Gloucestershire Walking Group website.
