West Mendip Walkers moderate 9.8 mile walk from Abbots Leigh Village Hall (BS8 3QP). This is a lovely varied walk with some panoramic views across the Severn Estuary. The walk wends through Leigh Woods and down to the Avon Gorge through Paradise Bottom. We then join the tow path and follow the river to Pill. Traversing Pill we then follow a variety of good footpaths through woodland and farmland to the Abbots Pool. In the Middle Ages the ponds were used by the monks of St Augustine Abbey in Bristol to provide fresh fish. Then we make our way back to Abbots Leigh passing various historic homes.
The route is mainly dog friendly but there may be livestock in fields. There is one stile. Refreshments are available after the walk at the George Inn pub or the cafe next door.
Park at the free public parking spaces opposite the Abbots Leigh village hall, Church road (BS8 3QP) or roadside along Church Road
