Welcome to the last stage of my Ayrshire Coastal Path. We drive to Wemyss Bay, parking at the railway station (charge £3 per day) before boarding a bus to Largs to start our walk. Please remember to bring your travel card. We begin walking at sea level on Largs seafront before heading inland on a gradual ascent on pleasant tracks towards Knock Hill. There are several short uphill sections, the beauty of which is great views over the Firth of Clyde to Arran, Bute, The Cowal peninsula and beyond. We will take the path around Knock Hill on a good track, but which can be muddy following wet weather. A rough path takes us through the forest down to join a quiet minor road. We will follow the route of High Skelmorlie, again with an uphill section, before descending down to the cars.
Caution is necessary crossing the busy main A78 road.
Poles and gaiters useful for muddy ground and downhill sections through rough forest ground.
There is nothing difficult about this section and the walk will be taken at a sensible pace, giving time to enjoy the views and surroundings. Moderate / Grade B
Car sharing cost 70 mile round trip plus £3 parking £24 per car
Toilet facilities available at railway station at beginning and end of the walk.
