Parking at the car park at the far end of the village, we walk back through the village of Sorn towards the Church. We turn right onto a gentle inclining track through Spooky Woods, following a path above the village. This brings us onto a quiet minor road, which is followed for around 1 mile before taking to open ground. We pass an uninhabited farm leading onto quad bike track then uphill till we reach the summit cairn and trig point. Blacksidend Hill is part of the Muirkirk hills with good views over the surrounding countryside. The return route leads us direct to the cars parked at the opposite end of Sorn
The ground may be muddy in parts, especially after rainfall. Boots and gaiters recommended, poles if desired.
There is no major obstacles on this pleasant walk.
Sorn is a historic conservation village known for its 17th century parish church and covenanter-linked graveyard. There is also the old Dalgain Meal Mill, still currently used as community church hall.
