Difficulty : Leisurely but there are four stiles and four sets of steps.
Starting from the car park immediately to the left as you enter Almondell & Calderwood Country Park, South Entrance, East Calder, EH53 0EU. Grid Ref: NT091681. Post Code EH52 5PE
If travelling directly there meet at 10am.
Route is via paths in the park to the Visitor's Centre, Lin's Mill Aqueduct and by the Union Canal, some minor road walking.
A number of ascents and descents of about 30m, some very steep. Some muddy bits. Possible post walk refreshments at Almondell cafe at J & R Veitch Garden Centre, nearby.
Directions:
Turn left from the Library, left down Riccarton Mains Road, through the roundabout at the Park & Ride and then left at the next roundabout to take the A71 west. After Linburn you will see East Calder signposted to the right on the B7015 – take this turn. Just past the left turn to JR Veitch Garden Centre you must turn right where it is signed “Almondell & Calderwood Country Park, South Entrance.” Turn right into the cemetery car park. EH53 0EU. Grid Ref: NT091681. 8 miles travel from Currie Library to walk start.
For the return trip : Return via the B7015 and A71 but if you take the first right after the Dalmahoy Hotel, [ signed ‘Currie’ ] you will pass Curriehill Station to go up Curriehill Road and turn left for the Library or right for Balerno.
