We'll be setting off from The Bog car park on a level woodland track before a short ascent to the Nipstone, a mile of the Shropshire Way, then lanes and field paths to reenter the Stiperstones National Nature Reserve below Cranberry Rocks, crossing the ridge near Devil's Chair and descending to The Bog Visitor Centre, where the cafe will be open for those of us in need of refreshment. Weather permitting, we should have some great views towards the Welsh mountains as far as Aran Fawddwy and Cadair Idris to the west, with Long Mynd and Stretton Hills to the east.
I'm grading this walk as moderate plus as, with just under 400 metres of ascent, a lot of uneven ground and a few rocky paths as well as the inevitable mud, it will be challenging - but not difficult. Walking boots with good grip and ankle support are strongly recommended.
We'll aim for a steady pace with two picnic stops around 10:45 and 1 o'clock, so bring a packed lunch and a hot drink flask.
At the end of the walk, there's an optional visit to the Bog Visitor Centre cafe - all welcome. There are toilets in the visitor centre.
