The track to Am Binnein starts from Corrie through woodland, leading onto rough open ground. The climb up Am Binnein (660m) involves some rough scrambling and exposure. From the summit the hike along a broad ridge offers fine views over the surrounding mountains. Continuing over rough ground with more scrambling the route takes us up and over Goatfell (874m). The descent is via the tourist path to Cladagh and the walk along the beach back to Brodick for the return sailing.
We will take the early ferry to Arran 0630am from Troon. On arrival at Brodick we take the bus to Corrie (remember your bus pass if you have one). The return ferry will leave Brodick at 1720.
This is a grade A strenuous walk involving 970m of ascent. Strong boots essential, walking poles recommended except when scrambling. Car mileage from Kilmarnock to Troon is 22 mile round trip. The car park at ferry terminal costs £5 or there is on street parking. It is important to get to Troon for 0600 to leave time to park and get to the ferry terminal to purchase your ticket. Therefore it is essential the cars leave Kilmarnock at 0530am. Patrick, the walk leader will meet you at the Ferry terminal.
