This is an A+ walk. The walk starts from the bus stop at Glen Sannox, we follow a good track for a short distance then turn off and go over heather and rough moorland to a burn. From here we go up until we reach a path that traverses the side of the hill , we reach the shoulder of the hill and from here we have a long scramble upwards over large boulders until we arrive at the broken summit of Cioch na h-Oighe with absolutely fabulous views in the right conditions. We carry on still going upwards along a ridge and scrambling over two further stacks until we reach the flat top of Mullach Buidhe with amazing views all around. We continue downwards to North Goat Fell which we will skirt, then upwards to Goat Fell itself 874metres. Then the long walk down the main path to the ferry.
This is a very strenuous walk with extensive scrambling and some exposed ridges. The amount climbed is over Munro height at 3200feet approx. and will take 9 hours, with stops.
We will catch the early ferry to Arran at 7am from Ardrossan ( subject to change which we will know nearer the time ). Then we will take the bus to Glen Sannox REMEMBER BUS PASSES. We will be returning on the late ferry, at the moment the time is 7.20pm.
As it is such a long walk please remember to take PLENTY of water.
Walking poles are highly recommended except when scrambling.
This is a very challenging walk and I would appreciate everyone letting me know if they intend to do the walk.
The car milage from Kilmarnock to Ardrossan is a 38mile round trip.
The car park costs £5 at Ardrossan and the ferry costs £10.20 return.
