Overview

This walk has been amended and updated from the original provisional posting and now starts at St Helens Green.

This walk has been instigated and inspired by Martin from the mid-Sussex Ramblers, who some of you may recall kindly ran a mainland walk for us in the New Year and has plotted out the route for this circular summer walk.

Starting at St Helen's Green (free carpark/toilets), we will make a short distance of road walking and then take the old railway track to Brading. Crossing Brading Marsh and the River Yar, we go up on Bembridge Down to Culver Cliff (lunch stop). From there down long the Coastal Path (still partly diverted at time of recce), into Bembridge (toilet near Pilot Boat Inn), along the embankment, round Bembridge harbour, and then across the Causeway and dunes to St Helens Duver. For anyone wanting it, there is an alternative short cut back up at the end of the embankment to the St Helens Green carpark, not crossing the causeway. A mix of country and seaside walking

An (entirely optional) swim and drink at St Helens Duver, to cool off towards the end of the walk - and an opportunity to have a bite to eat. Details tba -Baywatch cafe or Vine Inn.

End time for walk obviously depends on whether you stay  on for a bit or head straight off at end of walk.

Please note:

~ This walk is mostly fairly flat apart from the Bembridge Down / Culver section.  It is a Serena-walk not a hard-core walk, i.e. intended to take it at a leisurely pace, enjoy the countryside, with plenty of drinks stops especially if hot, so please treat it as a full day's walk.

~ Some short but unavoidable sections of road-walking - please walk in single file and take care!

~ The route is quite exposed for most of the way - especially if weather is hot, so please ensure you bring plenty of water and sunscreen.
