A circular walk from Ventnor along some less known footpaths behind the town, climbing 200m steeply up to St Boniface Down through the National Trust open access land. From there we'll drop to Luccombe, then Shanklin for refreshment, before following a section of Worsley Trail up to Shanklin Down, walking back to Ventnor past the radar station. Spectacular views of the south and east coasts, and lovely woodlands full of wild garlic in this season. The climbs on the downs are fairly challenging and somewhat vertiginous.
Some of the paths are narrow and steep. There are a few stiles and we shall pass through some livestock and feral goat grazing areas, as well as nesting grassland, where dogs will need to be on a short lead. Paths may be muddy depending on the weather leading up to the walk. Some of the paths are slippery under any weather conditions and steps may be uneven. Check the forecast for weather on the day and dress appropriately. We'll be stopping for lunch on the front in Shanklin, please bring your own refreshment or money to buy locally (many options). We'll be walking on town roads some of the way in both Ventnor and Shanklin. The start and end point are about 10 min walk from Ventnor Boots bus-stop (route nos.3 and 6), let leader know if you will arrive by bus, to make sure we wait.
