This is a 5+ miles figure of eight walk. We set off past Amersham Cricket Club ground, skirting Wheatley Wood, via the Rough Park (close to the National Grid substation) and after a short stretch of road we enter Penn Wood via the attractive Grade II listed Church in the Wood. We then join the ancient ‘hollow ways’ of Toby’s Lane and Mop End Lane. Finally, the South Bucks Way takes us through the Shardeloes park estate with its splendid 18th century country house and head back towards the cricket ground where, hopefully, we can enjoy tea and cake at “Koko’S” pop-up café (if it is open). There are signs to keep dogs under control and warnings about equine flu.

Starting point: East Lodge, off A413, Amersham HP7 ORN The postcode is unhelpful. On the Google map, our starting point is closest to “Post box - Royal Mail (Shardeloes House)”. Park: Free parking on road adjacent to Amersham Cricket Club ground. At the roundabout outside Amersham where the A413 meets the A404 Whielden Lane (near HS2 worksite), take the north-west fork of the A413. Then turn 1st left at the next roundabout and you will be in a side road. Park where you can. Starting point is at the end of the side road. Amersham CC are playing at home from 1.00pm. Beware of cricket balls!
