Introduction:
This is the last of four walks I’ve planned in October to stage across two weekends, aiming to showcase Dorset’s wonderful variety, which are intended to fulfil my personal fundraiser in support of Greenpeace, helping ensure I’ve completed at least 62 miles in that month. I’m posting my walk via Ramblers so it’s widely available to all, including non-members.
Please note it isn’t implying The Ramblers Association directly supports Greenpeace, though both organisations certainly espouse a love of nature.
If you’re interested in making a donation to my ’31 Miles for Nature’ effort please contact me directly on the number quoted below and I’ll send you the link to my page.
I need to know how many are coming, so there is a booking system – see link below.
Walk Description:
(Don’t forget – clocks will have gone back, BST is over!)
Corfe Castle is one of Dorset’s best-known and most-visited historic landmarks. I cannot illustrate the joy of living in our county without including it. It provides majestic photo opportunities in its pivotal position, be it cast by blue sky or storm cloud. Our walk begins by popping to Scotland, which may seem ambitious, but is in fact nearby amidst harbour-hugging heathland, before we turn to circuit the Blue Pool, then south to climb up the sweeping valley to reach the stunning views of the Jurassic coast at Swyre Head, then to join the SWCP for a short but bracing stretch before turning inland at Houns Tout and then a hurtle down through the woods at Kingston on a less-trodden path that takes us into Corfe village. Here if all goes to time we will stop at the Greyhound for a drink, before the last short drop down to our start point.
Note: our group walks quite briskly; this route is quite demanding of terrain and distance; if you have any concerns about fitness/capability please contact the walk leader in advance.
