Before they had their own church, Dore was in the parish of Dronfield and villagers had to carry their deceased relatives along paths to the parish church at Dronfield. We follow the route they would have used on their return home.
An undulating walk with one rather steep descent. Mostly on pavements with a couple of off-road paths that may become muddy after rain. No stiles.
People are asked to catch the 09:54 43 Chesterfield bound bus from Flat Street (or Arundel Gate) as far as Wreakes Lane Top (Sainsbury's) bus stop in Dronfield. Walk Leader will join the bus at Meadowhead.
We start at the Hall Barn in Dronfield where there is a Cafe and toilets - so a coffee break before we set off.
Then via Stubley and Barnes Lanes to Rod Moor Lane and up to Tinkers Corner.
Continuing down Prospect Road and Prospect Place through Poynton Wood to Totley Brook.
From there we follow the path adjacent to Devonshire Road up to the village green in Dore with their 'new' church nearby.
Walkers can leave the walk here (81 bus) or continue along Church Lane to footpath down to Hay Brook and path down to Totley Brook Road and bus stop on Abbeydale Road. (97,98 & 218 buses).
