From the free car park we start on a metalled track through Bagworth Heath Woods, taking field paths and descending steps to cross the railway line near Bagworth Wood. We turn back past Bagworth Park towards Thornton, circling the reservoir to stop for lunch at the new cafe. Crossing the railway line again at the claypit south of Thornton we take woodland paths back to the start.
There are 12 easy stiles to navigate.
No toilets at the start point car park, but toilets are usually available at the Thornton Reservoir lunch stop.
The new Thornton Reservoir cafe is a modest facility with a few picnic tables, but offers delicious hot drinks and a selection of cakes. (Autumn opening hours will be checked before the walk).
Debrief at the Bricklayers Arms, Thornton (open for drinks until 3pm).
