Starting from the Village Hall the route follows a quiet paved road to Haythwaite, passing some disused quarries. We pass through Hope Plantation and then on to East Hope. Traversing the outer fringe of The Stang {midgie cream requirement a possibility} Barningham Moor opens out in front. This area is steeped in probable Bronze Age remains that are scattered about including enclosures, settlements, rock art, cairn fields and stone circles. On the moor you get some of the best views of Northern England (weather permitting). We will make our way back to Barningham via How Tallon Ridge and Badger Way.
Refreshments should be available at The Millbank Arms on completion. The walk takes place during the Grouse shooting season but I am reliably informed that no game may be killed or taken on a Sunday or Christmas Day.
Weather conditions can change very quickly and much of the route is exposed so suitable good strong footwear and waterproofs should be brought. Please park sensitively in the village.
Not suitable for dogs.
If you intend to go straight to the start of the walk, please let the leader know before the walk.
