Overview

Starting from Barton Marina, this walk takes us through fields and woodland to a stretch of the Trent & Mersey canal, then on to Tatenhill Lock. We then take a short diversion to have a coffee break alongside the lake at Branston Water Park. We won't be walking all the way round the park on this occasion.

From there we follow quiet tracks and fields to Dunstall, where I am very hopeful we will be treated to a  display by the local Red Deer, it being the middle of the rutting season.

We then make our way to Dunstall parish church where we will have our lunch break. Quiet lanes and fields (with a couple of gentle climbs) take us through Barton Village itself, before returning to our starting point.

Please bring your own refreshments. There are four stiles along the route.

There are plenty of places at the Marina - cafés, restaurants and a pub - to relax after the walk.
