We have been approached by BBC Hereford and Worcester to support their Children in Need fundraiser. Two of their presenters will be doing the walk as a three-legged challenge hence the need for a stile-free walk with access points for local celebrities to join to draw attention to the fundraising effort for this wonderful charity. They are Malcolm Boyden and Elliott Webb from the Mid-morning show. It is an easy, flat, canalside walk until the final climb from the Queens Head pub to the BBC's designated finish point at Avoncroft museum.
Please note that we will begin the walk at 8am from Vines Park in Droitwich opposite Waitrose, and will be walking at the pace of our three-legged companions! This is a linear 'rail trail' walk. Paid car parking available. Droitwich train station is 0.6 miles from the start at Vines Park and it is an easy walk. Car shares can be organised by Ramblers members if wished, or we will return to Droitwich by catching the train from Bromsgrove station (an additional mile at the end). You will be guided there on foot by the quickest route at the end of the walk.
Bring plenty to drink and snacks as the walk may take longer than our usual pace for a Ramblers walk as the BBC will be broadcasting en route. There are toilets at the start and we hope that Avoncroft museum will open them for us at the finish.
Lunch - no arrangements have been made as our finish time is uncertain. The Ewe and Lamb pub is close to Avoncroft and may be a suitable place if we want lunch.
