King Charles II gave the best woods to his paramour, Nell Gwynne and in turn to their son the Duke of Albans. They formed part of the larger hunting ground of the Royal Sherwood Forest. Bestwood Lodge, now the hotel, was built in the mid-1800s replacing an earlier medieval hunting lodge. A pre-Christmas lunch walk around the woods and Mill Lakes.
This walk is open to all, not just to those who have booked for the Christmas lunch.
