Step into Summertime with a walk through Calke Park and along the Ticknall Trail. Starting from the Round Car Park overlooking Staunton Harold Reservoir, our route takes us into Calke Park, past St Giles' church, turning along the edge of the park and leading on to the Ticknall Trail. We follow the trail back toward the village of Ticknall, paralleling the avenue of trees leading back into Calke Park. Our walk continues via Calke Explore and the woodland path by the lakes and back to to the start.
At this time of year, the trees in the park should be carrying their early-summer foliage.
Calke Park gets busy on Sundays, although we will be clear of the main areas for most of the time
The paths through the park and along the Ticknall Trail are generally good but well-used and show signs of wear in places. There will be surface mud in places after rain. The path around the lakes toward the end of the walk is steep in a few places.
There are no stiles.
There is a handy fallen tree trunk where we will take a drinks break. Seating, picnic tables and toilets are available at Calke Explore, where we will stop for lunch.
Please bring a packed lunch
