This is a lovely walk with far reaching views to the north and along the Black Mountain escarpment above Talgarth. It is graded as a strenuous walk due to the initial steady climb which has a couple of short steep sections. Once on the top it is fairly level walking until we begin our descent. We are starting the walk already quite high up and our main climb is before coffee. There will be plenty of time to stop and enjoy the views as we walk around the top of the escarpment. We then descend the ridge, known as the Dragon’s Back, to Castell Dinas. Our path then follows rough moorland tracks back to our cars. Plenty of layers and waterproofs are essential. It may be slippery on the descent so walking poles would be useful. There may be small streams and mud on the lower ground if there has been much rain. One slightly awkward stile. Please contact the walks leader if you have any questions about this walk.
