This is a walk all about the views at the top of Breidden Hill and Admiral Rodney's Pillar. We will take the established path that meanders from the base of Breidden Hill. This striking landmark gives wonderful views towards the River Severn and Offa’s Dyke Path.
The plan is to stop at the summit for a packed lunch and absorb the views. Due to the height of Rodney's Pillar the path is on an incline, but is only steep at the top. We will take this at a pace that is manageable for everyone, we can pause to take in the views around us.
Please note Rodney’s Pillar is currently fenced off due to its state of disrepair. However this only affects the immediate area around the base of the Pillar, and will not impead enjoyment of the views etc.
It is Dog Friendly (I don't recall there being any stiles) but there are notices on the path advising that dogs should be kept on a leash. There were plenty of dogs about on my recce walk
For those that wish to, the plan will be to stop at the Admiral Rodney Pub for drinks after the walk (this is at the base of Breidden hill).
Close to Rodney's Pillar is St Peter's church at Melverly. It is unusual in that it is entirely timber framed and built in 1406. In my opinion this is a particularly characterful and beautiful building and I plan to stop here on the return car journey. People are very welcome to join.
Fingers crossed for a sunny day!
