Overview

A winter walk over familiar territory taking in Maiden Castle (an Iron Age fort from 600BC) and Raw Head Trig (highest point of the Sandstone Trail 745ft). The route uses field paths, stony tracks, tree-rooted sections and has a steep rocky climb up to Larkton Hill. It may be muddy in winter weather. We will cross the A534 twice - caution is advised. Those of festive cheer may take refreshments at The Bickerton Poacher and may be tempted to join the Leader for a warming festive meal. Total cumulative ascent 1350 ft. Tel 07760 195014. Assistance dogs only. Full Day. Bring lunch and adequate liquids. Booking is essential and opens from 06/11/2025. Book using https://nmc-ramblers.org.uk/ or click link below.
