We are the Biggar Ramblers. We open the way for everyone in our local community to enjoy the pleasures of walking.
This is a straightforward easy circular walk of just under 5 miles on good paths. The route offers attractive countryside, good views and plenty of historical interest. We walk alongside the loch, through woods and along an old railway line. The gentle climb up Park Hill is gradual and does not exceed 300 feet.
Although it is a bit of a distance to travel, it is worth the journey to this quiet, seldom visited part of Scotland. Taking junction 29A off the M8 onto the A737 you follow the signs to the Castle Semple Country Park. Drive past and do not enter the RSPB visitor centre car park on the right but take the next right signposted to the Castle Semple country park. Turn right off Church Street before the left-hand corner and park in the car park on the lock side in view of the park Café and Centre. Toilets are available here. Meet at the corn exchange in Biggar at 8:45 am and we will meet at the car park at Loch Winnoch for a 10.30 start.
J29A off the M8, onto the A737. At roundabout follow signs right to the Castle Semple Country Park onto the A760. Drive past the entrance to the RSPB Visitor Centre and take next right to the Castle Semple Country Park. In 200m turn right off Church Street at the left hand corner. Park in the country park loch side car park.
