This is a cracking walk with fantastic views across to the Kinder Plateau on one side and Derwent Edge on the other.
This is a car ramble so people need to convene at the cross roads of Ecclesall Road with Millhouses Lane at 9.15 am to pick up a lift to Hurst Clough car park by Ladybower reservoir where the walk starts at 9.45 am. We walk by the reservoir then head up through Ridges Coppice to walk along the ridge to Woodcock Coppice then down to Hoggwater Bridge and along the valley to Upper Ashop. We cross the A57 to walk along the valley to Alport Farm before climbing up to Alport Castles. From there we follow the ridge with fabulous views all the way to Crookhill Farm, finally descending to Ladybower reservoir and a short walk back to the car park.
This is a moderate walk with two climbs. The climb up to Alport Castles is a steep climb. It may be muddy in places and can sometimes be windy on the ridge. There are no public toilets or refreshments en route.
