Overview

This is a 10.5 mile walk from Chartham, that heads along the Stour Valley, before climbing to higher ground to give fine views over Canterbury and later, over the valley below Chartham Downs.

We set off along the Stour Valley Walk, before enjoying a gradual rise into Larkeyvalley Wood, eventually  Canterbury Catherdral comes into view as we make progress towards Lower Hardres church.

Close to the church, the Three Horse Shoes Inn has been gone for many years now, so we must press on to Swarling Manor, with Chartham Downs to our right. We then meander through to Shalmsford Street, before heading back over to Chartham, where the Artichoke awaits those in need of refreshment.

As always there will be the picnic lunch stop, and drinks as mentioned when almost finished.

This is a decent little circuit for some Autumn air, but the wooded areas, and farmland could be muddy, so walking poles might be useful.

Walk leader is Kevin Hall
